The USD 231 Board of Education is pleased to announce the hiring of Mrs. Sheila Cabanas as the new Gardner Elementary Principal.

Mrs. Cabanas started her career in education in 2009 as a teacher in the Olathe School District. During her 11-year tenure as a teacher, she taught kindergarten, third, fourth, and fifth grades. Mrs. Cabanas continued working in Olathe as a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) Literacy Support Specialist, helping support administration and teachers with various literacy initiatives.

In July 2024, Mrs. Cabanas embarked on a new professional journey after accepting the

Intern Administrator position at Oak Hill Elementary in the Blue Valley School District. During this time, Mrs. Cabanas worked supporting the principal, staff, families, and students with kindergarten through fifth-grade students.

Mrs. Cabanas earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She continued her education, earning a Master’s degree in Technology Education from MidAmerica Nazarene University. Mrs. Cabanas then finished her formal education by completing her coursework in School Leadership from Emporia State University.
