Character Education Program

The Gardner Edgerton School District, in a collaborative effort with parents and the community, will teach and model fundamentals of good character.

WHAT ARE THE DISTRICT'S CHARACTER TRAITS?

The Gardner Edgerton School District teaches, models and recognizes the following character traits:

August Self-Control

Choose my behaviors.
Believe that I am responsible for my choices.
Recognize that I can control my thoughts and actions.
Resist the impulse to make a poor choice.

September Responsibility

Make things right when I have been wrong.
Do what I say I'm going to do.
Not make excuses.
Do all of my work to the best of my ability.

October Respect

Follow the Golden Rule.
Use good manners and language.
Do my best at home, school & work.
Take good care of all property.

Citizenship

Be loyal to my school, community, state & country.
Obey the rules and laws where I live and work.
Protect and care for the environment.
Be a good neighbor.
Vote.

December Caring & Compassion

Forgive others.
Help those in need.
Show that I care in what I say and do.
Be considerate of other's feelings.

Be honest.
Tell the truth.
Be reliable.
Do the right thing.

Treat everyone equally.

NEW THIS FALL - CHARACTER CALENDAR

Gardner Edgerton C.A.R.E.S. is a new calendar designed by Gardner Hart and produced by Trade Net Publishing Company of Gardner, Kansas. CARES stands for Community Action Reinforces Each Student. The Character Calendar includes a trait for each month.  If you would like to have a copy of the Gardner Edgerton C.A.R.E.S. CHARACTER PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Students and staff will...

  • Know the meaning of each trait
  • Observe examples of each trait
  • Display character traits in all aspects of daily life
  • Have an opportunity to participate in service learning activities that benefit the community
  • Identify character-related themes throughout the curriculum
  • Understand the benefits of positive character and the consequences of the lack of character
  • Involve parents and community in promoting character education
